Veganism - Also known as vegan. Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. (vegansociety) Not your standard urban dictionary word but a movement that has taken way this year! I've been vegetarian some years before but I committed myself this past January 1st, the very beginning of 2017, to be fully vegan from inside and out. So from food (so delicious), clothing, household products, personal body products, and of course forcing everyone around me to be vegan too ;)
I was lucky enough to have met some some amazing people like Sica Schmitz of Bead and Reel , Taryn of Vegataryn and Jacky from BeetXBeet. All amazing woman entrepreneurs creating their own brands on vegan fashion with ethics in mind. I got to experience a community like no other with their love for animals, fashion, kindness and passion for activism. I soon go to see these same attributes in the sustainable fashion industry too! People are so helpful and encouraging because we all want to help shape our industry and world for our future generations to come. I quickly learned while attending the Art Institutes that there was a huge problem with our fashion industry and was figuring out how can I become part of the solution like these amazing ladies. It clicked after doing an Earth Day Symposium at my school that I can totally combine fashion and environmentalism. I was once told, "There are many ways to get involved and help but you just have to figure out what your passionate about the most."
So it's no surprise veganism covers many aspects besides delicious food and kind people. It truly impacts our clothes, the workforce, climate change, and animals everywhere.
My Eco-Tip Tuesday talks about how our chickens are more so genetically modified more then ever because of the constant need and consumption. Within the past 67 years chickens are 4 times bigger and the chicken breasts are 80% larger! Not only is it painful for them but terrible for us as well eating GMO food that affects our bodies and babies. Live a plant-based life <3
